PM Q&A: What to expect from Hikvision's new PT series (pan & tilt) cameras

, by Armia Ghali, 3 min reading time

Hikvision has launched a new PT-Series pan and tilt camera lineup to meet the needs of small and medium-sized businesses. This means the cameras are easy to install, easy to use, and can cover a wide range of security scenarios thanks to their dual-axis pan capability to keep security incidents within their field of view. We interviewed Bennett Lian, Product Manager for Hikvision PT Cameras, to learn more about the key product features and how they benefit small and medium-sized businesses.

Q: Bennett, can you tell us something about the new Hikvision PT-Series cameras?

A: Yes, we're very excited about the new camera series. PT cameras use a motor to move vertically and horizontally. The motorized pan and tilt function can be used with the mobile app, giving users much more extensive video coverage, including areas previously hidden from fixed cameras.

Q: PT cameras are just one letter away from PTZ cameras. What's the difference?

A: Yes, that's correct, there's only one letter difference between them. In terms of functionality, the main difference is that PT cameras have slightly fewer features than PTZ cameras. For example, PT cameras offer basic rotation for a full view of the security area and typically have 0x to 4x optical zoom, which is generally perfect for small business setups and budgets. On the other hand, PTZ cameras offer more advanced and comprehensive features, making them ideal for enterprises and public organizations with larger or more demanding security requirements.

Q: Are there any recommended application scenarios for PT cameras?

A: PT cameras come in various forms, such as PT dome cameras, PT bullet cameras, PT tower cameras, and others. This means there are models suitable for various settings and scenarios, including residential homes, small shops, restaurants, small factories, small farms, and other small and medium-sized operations. Where these cameras are used depends on the user's requirements for how they should look in that specific environment.

Q: What pain points do PT cameras solve for SMB customers?

A: Firstly, traditional fixed camera installation is often complicated and time-consuming. Furthermore, fixed cameras can't rotate flexibly, resulting in limited visibility. The PT series addresses these challenges. With a versatile bracket, PT cameras allow installers to easily mount the camera without having to adjust the viewing angle on-site. This minimizes installer effort and reduces costs for SMB customers. Furthermore, SMB customers can adjust the camera angle from their mobile device using the Hik-Connect app, providing a much more convenient experience. They can also view live video feeds, receive event notifications, communicate remotely with two-way audio, and more. All of these features make security more appealing to them while also helping them see the bigger picture with a much wider field of view.

Q: We're seeing some PT cameras incorporate well-known Hikvision technologies like ColorVu and AcuSense. How can customers choose the right PT camera for their specific security needs?

A: PT cameras meet the needs of users with motion capabilities, but they can also offer features like ColorVu and AcuSense to meet specific customer needs. For example, customers who need full-color video footage with added motion functionality can choose a PT camera with ColorVu technology, while those who want a camera that can distinguish between people, vehicles, and other harmless moving objects like pets or falling leaves can choose a PT camera with built-in AcuSense technology.

Q: With a motor, PT cameras have a more complex structure than regular cameras. Are there any additional protection measures for water and dust resistance?

A: To improve water resistance, we optimized the structure of PT products, leveraging our experience designing highly resilient traditional dome cameras. The waterproof and dustproof performance of the PT series cameras meets the IP66 water and dust resistance standard, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments.
