Hikvision recently expanded its camera lineup with ColorVu technology, which features high-quality lenses and sensors for clear, full-color images even in extreme low-light conditions. The new range also includes 4K cameras that offer an Ultra HD experience and varifocal cameras that allow users to zoom in on color video at night. To put the updated camera lineup to the test, we asked Hikvision Product Manager Jerry Xu to explain how the cameras work, what’s unique about them, and how they’re helping organizations take their security to the next level.
Q1: Jerry, can you introduce Hikvision's extensive camera range with ColorVu technology?
A: Yes, of course. Any security professional will tell you that color is extremely important for capturing high-resolution images with the detail needed to identify and respond to incidents and collect evidence for later use. The latest camera lineup with ColorVu technology meets this need, providing both bright color images and extremely high resolution, even at night and in dark indoor environments. The color and clarity these cameras offer make them ideal for outdoor environments like parks and streets where the public needs to be protected at night, or for dark indoor spaces like movie theaters.
Q2: How can ColorVu cameras capture detailed, full-color video in the dark? Are there any new and exciting technologies you'd like to highlight?
A: Cameras with ColorVu utilize extremely high-quality lenses and sensors for bright, colorful images in near-total darkness. We've also integrated other industry-leading technologies, such as 4K technology for ultra-high-definition imaging and varifocal technology for full-color imaging at all focal lengths. With even better image quality and richer detail, 4K cameras with ColorVu can be used in scenarios such as stadiums, airports, harbors, and parking lots, where clear, high-resolution images are essential.
Q3: I understand that all these cameras have built-in lights. If ColorVu cameras work in near-total darkness, why do they need a built-in light?
A: There are two main reasons why ColorVu cameras have a built-in light. First, some rooms are pitch-black, meaning there's no light at all for the camera to operate. In these types of rooms, the built-in light allows the camera to function and record high-quality color images. Second, the built-in light can help increase security in certain areas, such as building entrances or logistics parks. For this reason, many customers choose to enable camera lights as an additional security measure.
In almost all cases, ColorVu-enabled cameras can capture high-resolution, full-color images with the built-in light turned off, so it's up to customers whether they want to use it or not!
Q4: What is the value of ColorVu for security teams?
A: Providing security teams with rich, colorful image information at night is the core value of ColorVu technology. This allows them to easily see more detail with color and respond quickly when incidents occur. Customers can also save even more time by combining cameras with Hikvision AI and Deep Learning technologies like AcuSense. This allows security teams to focus on incidents that matter by automatically distinguishing between people, vehicles, and other moving targets like rain, leaves, and animals. Alarms are only triggered when genuine threats are detected, enabling security teams to respond faster and more effectively.
Q5: How can customers choose the right cameras with ColorVu for their specific security needs?
A: The ColorVu technology product line includes a wide variety of different cameras, each with unique features and benefits.
For example, we've launched 4K cameras with ColorVu technology that offer a UHD experience, and varifocal cameras that allow users to zoom in on color video at night. We also have a range of smart IP cameras with ColorVu that utilize AcuSense technology on the front for people and vehicle detection. If you're unsure which camera is right for your business or application, please contact us, and we'll be happy to help.
Q6: Who is currently using ColorVu technology to enhance their security monitoring?
A: We already have several customers using cameras with ColorVu technology, from businesses and educational institutions to local governments. Many small businesses, for example, use ColorVu cameras to ensure the protection of their employees, customers, and assets, and to record high-resolution, full-color video footage as evidence of security breaches. A number of logistics parks and other large facilities also use ColorVu cameras for multiple applications, from perimeter security and warehouse security monitoring to monitoring vehicle movements and on-site parking.
